Here we are halfway through the series with absolutely no inclination Yuji will accomplish such things. This is also the scene where Gojo (who has become unreliable on all things Yuji) said he will unlock Sakuna’s techniques. In case you forgot it’s the scene where Yuji lists off all the other Shonen protags from various anime and their abilities and cries about how he has no chance of getting one of his own. The worst part about this is the series (AKA Gege) is self-aware and poked fun at this during the “training” arc. It's just another reason to keep him from growing and not give him a technique.

But the narrative (or fans) painted it as MaKiNg iT hIS OwN. Apparently, he got over this hump with Todo’s help, but only to find he went right back to it during the Choso fight. Which with Yuji is a fucking lot.ĭivergent Fist: is even worse because apparently it only happens to people who are amateurs. Anyone can do it.īlack Flash: is a random critical hit that comes in a person's time of need. Gege invented two entirely new ways of Yuji punching instead of giving him a technique only to find that his “signature” moves aren’t even special to him. The most basic shit in the entire series. His “signature” move is just a punch imbued with cursed energy. They spam it all the time and it became repetitive making their fights predictable and boring. You see a Shonen MC and the first you usually think about is their signature move. When it comes to other characters there is so much to talk about and theorize and what their role in the story will be. I get that’s by design, but it more so seems like it’s an excuse more than anything for Gege to keep him disposable.īack to what I said about him being outshined by other characters development, I feel the main issue is Yuji never allowed to really have an MC moment or to really shine and stick out from the crowd. I’m honestly scared for the direction his character is going, his character seems to be inevitably doomed whichever way you look at it. I mean technically, yes if being suicidal and self-depreciating is considered development.

In fact, practically every other character with meaningful development outshines him. Why are we this far into the series and still wondering when the MC is going to grow? I see a lot of people saying his character development is what makes him stand out but that’s false for two reasons:įirst of all, he doesn’t stand out. Which led to my disappointment.īefore I start, I’d like to state I know very well we’re only half through the story, but at the same time we’re half through the story and the main and only thing people talk about regarding Yuji is When is he going to grow? Long story short, because of the treatment past Shonen MCs have gotten, I became weary of investing into the MC of this anime. I talk a lot about how manga authors make their MCs bland as hell, but it has never been more apparent that a character exists solely for plot's sake until I saw Yuji. As my title says, I am beyond tired of how Gege is writing Yuji’s character.
